1. Introductory Citizens’ Meeting

First meeting with other UK panel members.

Learn more about the project and get to know each other. Prepare to take part in multilingual, multicultural dialogues. Work together to explore the subject and exchange views in preparation for the first European Convention.

What happened

2. First European Citizens’ Convention

First meeting with the other members of the European panel:

All citizens will discuss their views about brain science to define common questions for further exploration during the national meetings. Interpretation and translation into all languages will be provided.

3. Second National Citizens’ Meeting

UK panel members will study common issues in greater depth and draw up questions to submit to experts.

Date: 16 - 18 September 2005

4. Third National Citizens’ Meeting

UK panel members will continue and expand discussions from the previous meeting. Participants can question invited experts to gather the information needed to draw up a shared view on the subject. Their opinions will be written up and submitted at the final European convention.

5. Second European Citizens’ Convention

Final meeting with all members of the European panel. Citizens will integrate national opinions to give a European assessment of brain science. These European recommendations will be submitted to the European Commissioner for Science and Research in front of the press and the public.

6. Policy advice workshops and dissemination events

These events will be organised by the European and national project teams to maximise the outcomes of the Meeting of Minds process: from in-depth discussions with key stakeholders to national festivals open to the public. Willing citizens can play a key role during these events.
